Thing 23 THE END

Thing 23

Finally THE END! This has been for the most
part a interesting project. Should have finished
a long time ago, but found that some days I just
couldn't get it. Other days it went smoothly.

Liked the 'photo/video' exercises best - even
though they were sometimes difficult. Allows
use of enhancements to web sites and blogs.

Many useful things for personal and professional
use!!!

Thing 22 - Ebooks and Audiobooks

Thing 22 - The LAST THING

eBooks and Audiobooks so enhance the accessibility
of library materials. Since many study guides for the
numerous exams people are taking - GED, GRE,
Civil Service Tests, etc. etc. are now available as
eBooks, we don't need to stock 'hundreds' of each
title for our customers.

Thing 21 Podcasts

Added the RSS feed for the NLM Director's comments on
Medline Plus. Should enable me to keep updated on
what's new, medically speaking - if it isn't too arcane or
technical.

Also added the feed for Deliberate Noise Book Reviews.

Thing 20 You Tube

Thing 20-

My husband and I absolutely love to scuba dive.
We haven't been in a number of years, but we
kind of dream about doing it again. Especially
Australia's Great Barrier Reef.

You Tube has a number of wonderful scuba diving
videos - especially 'Scuba Diving with Dolphins.'

Could be handy on library websites for explaining
some simple things - like applying for a card -
simple catalog lookups - reserving a computer.

Thing 19 "Library Thing"

Library Thing is a 'neat' book club - while adding
books remembered several I read a long time ago.
I used to read lots of biographies.

Thing 18

Thing 18 - ZOHO WRITER

This seems to be a friendly word processor with lots

of helpful features - don't know how to shrink the

pictures further.

I went to a family reunion in July, 2007. All had a wonderful

time! The pictures below are the Reynolds 1st cousins. The

black and white one was taken in @1952 and was recreated

last summer.

Thing 17 SJLibrary Learning 2.0 Wiki

Thing 17 was short and sweet. I added my blog to the favorites page and even posted my favorite book!

Thing 16 - Wikis

Found 2 wikis of special interest - Princeton Public Library - BookLovers Wiki. Great reviews garnered from an adult summer reading program. Very useful. ALA 2006 New Orleans Wiki. Found this one of particular interest since I am involved in 2007 CLA San José. We have established a Wiki very like the New Orleans one.
Readers advisory lends itself readily for a library wiki, where people can post their own reviews.
Also subject guides like the one from St. Joseph County Public Library.

Thing 15 Perspectives on Web 2.0

For Thing 15, I read 'Into a new world of librarianship' - Librarian 2.0. Creative ways to make libraries more user-centric. Users help define and plan services based on their needs.

Also read 'To more powerful ways to cooperate.' To me the most important part was 'harnessing collective intelligence,' especially in building a more useful WorldCat and allowing everyone to contribute to the cooperative.

Technorati

Thing 14 - It is amazing to me the myriad of things people blog about. Having never been a diary or journal person, I sometimes just shake my head. Tagging can certainly quickly help you find what other people or news sites are saying about a topic you are interested in.

del.icio.us

Interesting site - important to me that you can access bookmarks from any computer on the web!

Back to Library 2.0

I always intended to finish the 23 things - now I am back to do it. Joan wants us all to complete the program - so on we go!
